How to Use Tokens to Personalize Emails and Templates in DriveCentric

DriveCentric allows you to personalize emails and templates by using tokens, which dynamically insert customer or user information into your messages. This guide explains how to use tokens effectively, troubleshoot common issues, and apply advanced techniques for email personalization.

Introduction to Tokens in DriveCentric

Tokens are placeholders that automatically populate with specific data, such as a customer’s first name, last name, or other details, when an email or template is sent. For example, the token #DV_CustomerPrimaryFirstName# will insert the recipient’s first name from their customer profile.

Commonly Used Tokens and Their Functions

Here are some commonly used tokens in DriveCentric:

  • Customer First Name: #DV_CustomerPrimaryFirstName# - Inserts the primary customer’s first name.

  • Customer Full Name: #DV_CustomerPrimaryFullName# - Inserts the primary customer’s full name.

  • Customer Last Name: #DV_CustomerPrimaryLastName# - Inserts the primary customer’s last name.

  • BDC Representative Name: #DV_BDCFirstName# - Inserts the BDC representative’s first name.

How to Insert Tokens in Email Templates

Follow these steps to add tokens to your email templates:

  1. Open the Templates settings in Store Settings.

  2. Place your cursor where you want the token to appear.

  3. Use the token dropdown menu to select the desired token (e.g., #DV_CustomerPrimaryFirstName#).

  4. Save the template. When the template is used, the token will automatically populate with the corresponding data.

Example:

To create a personalized greeting, you can write: "Hello, #DV_CustomerPrimaryFirstName#, welcome to our dealership!"

Using Tokens in Subject Lines

Tokens can also be used in email subject lines to personalize messages. However, tokens are not directly selectable from the subject field. Use the following workaround:

  1. Insert the desired token in the email body using the token picker.

  2. Cut the token from the body and paste it into the subject line.

  3. Save the template. The token will populate dynamically when the email is sent.

Troubleshooting Token Issues

If tokens are not populating correctly, consider the following solutions:

  • Token Displays as Literal Text: Ensure the token is placed in a merge-enabled context, such as the email body or subject line, and send the email through the proper campaign or blast flow. Test sends may not process merge fields.

  • Wrong Token Used: Verify that you are using the correct token for the desired data. For example, use #DV_CustomerPrimaryFirstName# for the primary customer’s first name, not the co-buyer’s name.

  • Token Not Found: Use the hash symbol (#) in the template editor to pull up available tokens and select the appropriate one.

Advanced Applications of Tokens

Tokens can be used for more than just email personalization. Here are some advanced applications:

  • Automated Emails: Configure templates to send automatically when a lead is created, using tokens to personalize the greeting.

  • Dynamic Data Insertion: Combine tokens for customer names and vehicle information to create highly personalized messages.

FAQs and Best Practices

  • Do I need quotation marks around tokens? No, tokens should be used without quotation marks (e.g., #DV_CustomerPrimaryFirstName#).

  • Can tokens be used in text templates? Yes, tokens can be inserted into text templates to auto-populate customer and user information.

  • How do I test token functionality? Load the template from a customer profile to confirm that the token pulls in the correct data.

By following these guidelines, you can effectively use tokens in DriveCentric to create personalized and engaging communications.
